Unfortunately, the recent struggles our men's basketball team has been experiencing reared their head on Saturday when the Vols fell on the road to the Auburn Tigers 77-72. The Vols shot 41.3% from the field, and 39.3% from three. Unfortunately the Vols just didn’t have the offensive power to get the win in this one. I’m not going to place the blame on one person as that would be unfair, but when John Fulkerson, or any player for that matter, has the same amount of turnovers as shot attempts, that’s a recipe for disaster. The Vols just don’t have someone who they can dump the ball down to and get easy buckets. I’ve seen some criticize the team for taking too many mid range jumpers and while this may be a hard point to make when the offense has been playing the way it has, I have no problem taking the mid range jumper. I do believe we need to take more threes. I have seen us pass up a wide open three and instead of taking the open three, or taking a dribble in and shooting, we pass to someone who is guarded and it slows the pace of the offense down. I feel like I should preface what i’m about to say by saying this: I am glad we have coach Barnes. He is a hall of fame coach. But watching the energy Bruce Pearl showed on the sidelines, I found myself wishing Coach Barnes would show at least half of that. The season isn’t over though, there’s still a glimmer of hope that Fulkerson could get going and find his rhythm. Let’s hope that is the case. The Vols will host Florida next Sunday for their next game. We do not know yet what time or channel.
