Rocky Top Times #4

This could be the most jam packed edition of RTT yet. Let’s dive in.

First of all, the Ballinteers announced they will be back for the 2021 TBT (the basketball tournament) the Ballinteers will consist of all Vol bball alumni. The first roster spot was announced to be Tennessee Basketball legend Chris Lofton. Also on the roster will be Lamonte Turner, Jordan Bowden, Cam Tatum , Wayne chism, and Jajuan Smith! . It was also announced Ron Slay will be the head coach.

In an….interesting move Tennessee and West Virginia announced they would be renewing their football “rivalry for a game in Charlotte, NC. The game will be played September 2nd, 2028.

Josh Heupel got his first “big” commitment on Wednesday from 2022 four star QB Tayven Jackson. Jackson had offers from Florida State, Texas A&M, and UCLA along with others. Jackson is the No. 18 pro style QB and the 326th ranked player in the class. Also, Tennessee landed USC defensive tackle transfer Caleb Tremblay in an attempt to add depth to the defense.

In Vol related news, the NCAA is seeking to expand the NCAA Football Playoff to 12 teams instead of the current format of four. The suggested expansion is thought to take place as early as 2023.

Tennessee Football had some departures this past week, defensive tackle Isaac Washington and linebacker Martavius French announced they would both be transferring from the program.

I didn’t add this to the list of players we got committed this week, because technically this is a rumor, but it’s pretty well known that Texas linebacker Juwan Mitchell will be transferring to Tennessee. He is not expected to post any sort of social media announcement, he will just show up and get to work.

And finally, a name Vol fans should know pretty well, Jay Hardy from Auburn is in the transfer portal. This will be a controversial topic of discussion, giving how some fans may not have forgiven Hardy for the way he handled his recruitment. We will wait and see if Tennessee expresses any sort of interest.
