Welcome to the first “Rocky Top times” which will be used to cover all topics Tennessee Volunteer related, and will be posted as needed. So, let’s dive in.
First things first, last night the Tennessee men’s baseball team defeated Western Carolina 14-12 in a close one. The Vols have a major series coming up against the 2nd ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. Game one is Friday night at 7 pm on ESPNU.
The University gave more details on the upcoming Orange and White game. The game returns to historic Neyland Stadium at 4pm with free admission to all fans. The main bowl will be general admission seating every other row. Tickets are not required. Face coverings should be worn when entering and moving around the stadium, but other than that breathe freely. Free parking areas at 10 a.m. Normal clear bag policies are in effect. Game day road closures as well. Beginning at 11 am Philip Fulmer way will be closed from Cumberland Ave. to Peyton Manning pass The tailgate festivities will begin at 12:30 pm in lot 9. Gates for Neyland open at 2:30 pm.
On the recruiting side of things, Tennessee football got their first commitment under Josh Heupel. In state LB Elijah Herring, a three star from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Herring fills a position of need with multiple LB’s in the transfer portal. On the Basketball side, Tennessee secured the commitment of four star center Jonas Aidoo. Aidoo is an athletic big man at 6 foot 11 inches who has drawn comparisons to former Rick Barnes play Myles Turner. It also is all but a done deal that Tennessee will add 5 star forward Brandon Huntley Hatfield to the mix as well, another athletic big man who can help spread the floor and create mismatch problems.
One rumor is that Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi is pondering potentially trying his hand at a professional career overseas. No decision has been made, but reports are the staff expects Vescovi back. On the John Fulkerson situation, it is expected he also returns, but no final decision has been made.
